Autism / Neurodivergent Priority Alert
An AIDBIPOC priority alert for missing persons who are autistic and/or neurodivergent — promoting inclusive search guidance, safe and respectful public messaging, and community awareness.
What This Means
Autistic and neurodivergent individuals face unique vulnerabilities when missing — different communication patterns, sensory needs, and behavioral responses that require informed search approaches.
This alert promotes safe, respectful, dignity-first public messaging that accounts for neurodivergent experiences and avoids harmful framing.
Community members and first responders are guided toward inclusive search strategies that reflect each person's specific needs and communication style.
Use when: Autism/ND status is confirmed by family/caregiver or verified documentation AND safety or vulnerability factors are present.
Who This Alert Covers
This alert is designated for missing persons whose autism or neurodivergent status is confirmed and whose circumstances indicate elevated safety risk.
How You Can Help
Use dignity-first language. Avoid terms like "suffers from" or "wandered away." Center the person, not the diagnosis.
Share search-specific details carefully. Include known communication patterns, sensory sensitivities, or comfort objects — these can be critical for safe approach and recovery.
If you spot them — approach calmly. Avoid sudden movements, loud tones, or physical contact. Create safety, not stress. Call for professional help immediately.
Report tips immediately. Contact law enforcement and the AIDBIPOC tip line with specific time, date, location, and any interaction details.
